Category

Cage nuts are square-shaped nuts with spring-steel wings designed for installation into the square holes of server racks, network cabinets, and equipment enclosures. The wings compress during insertion, then expand behind the mounting surface to lock the nut securely in place, providing threaded holes for mounting servers, switches, power strips, and other rack-mount equipment.

How They Work

  • The nut is inserted into a square hole from the front of the rack

  • Spring wings compress as they pass through the hole

  • Once through, the wings expand and lock the nut against the rear surface

  • The nut remains stationary during bolt insertion, eliminating the need for a wrench behind the rack

  • Can be installed by hand or with pliers for easier positioning

Applicable Standards

  • EIA-310 (Rack mounting specifications)

  • DIN 41494 (Equipment mounting interfaces)
