Category

Weld screws, also commonly referred to as weld studs or projection weld studs, are specialized fasteners designed to be permanently attached to metal surfaces through resistance projection welding or arc stud welding. They provide a strong, reliable threaded attachment point without requiring access to the back side of the workpiece, making them ideal for sheet metal fabrication, automotive assemblies, and structural applications.

Available Types

Type Description
Top Projection Weld Screw / Stud Features projections on top of the head; welds directly to the sheet surface without requiring holes. Ideal for blind locations where a clean exterior finish is needed.
Bottom Projection Weld Screw / Stud (Nibs Under Head) Projections located on the underside of the head; requires a pre-drilled pilot hole for positioning. Available in carbon steel with plain or plated finishes.
Ring Projection Weld Screw / Stud Continuous circular projection on the head or underside; provides uniform 360° weld for enhanced joint strength and sealing.
Spade Projection Weld Screw / Stud Features a spade-shaped head with offset threaded section; designed for welding in tight spaces or keyhole slots.
Right Angle Projection Weld Screw / Stud (Spade / Dogleg) Threaded section bent at a right angle relative to the welding surface. Enables welding onto exposed flat surfaces while the threaded end is offset, ideal for tubular frames and confined channels.
Straight Spaded Weld Screw / Stud Straight configuration with spade-shaped head; combines offset welding capability with straight thread orientation.
Arc Weld Stud Standard arc welding studs for heavy industrial applications, including fully threaded (FD, MD) and reduced base (RD) types per ISO 13918.
Self-Clinching Stud Installed by pressing into pre-drilled holes rather than welding; provides permanent threads in thin metal sheets.

Applicable Standards

Standard Description
ISO 13918:2017 Welding — Studs and ceramic ferrules for arc stud welding. International standard covering dimensions, materials, and performance requirements for arc weld studs.
IFI 548 Metric Threaded Projection Weld Studs – dimensional standard for projection weld studs.
